Ontario offers several grants to support Personal Support Workers (PSWs). Students can receive up to $5,400 during their clinical placements in long-term care or home and community care settings and up to $10,000 by committing to a position in these sectors.

The 23-week Personal Support Worker (PSW) program at Alpha College is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to make a positive impact in the lives of those requiring assistance. Delivered through a hybrid model, our program combines the flexibility of online learning with the hands-on experience of in-person training.

The curriculum encompasses a wide range of topics, from health and wellness to effective communication and client care techniques. Students will benefit from a 300-hour placement opportunity in long-term care facilities, giving them practical and supervised experience in real-world settings.

  • Personal Care: Master the art of assisting with dressing, personal hygiene, mobility, and other routine activities crucial for daily living.

  • Assisting with movement, positioning, and lifts

  • Canadian High School Equivalency Diploma (General Education Development Test) or equivalent (foreign credentials must be translated in English and assessed for equivalency by a recognized organization such as WES (World Education Service), or
  • Alternative admission test (Wonderlic Scholastic Exam)
  • Mature student status may be granted to applicants who are over 19 years old and do not have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Non-academic requirements – Such as medical certificate, police check.
  • If English is not a student’s first language, they must provide proof of English proficiency.
