Step by step guide

Applying to study at Alpha is easy. Below, you can find the step-by-step on how to apply to one of our programs whether you are living in Canada or overseas. If you have any questions, use the contact form found at the bottom of this page.

Alpha College currently offers 8 programs for international students in different areas, covering the most important areas of the Canadian market. The diploma and certificate programs are very popular programs and have a high employment rate.

Before applying, please, make sure you meet the admission requirements for your desired program.

After choosing the right program for your future, you will need to submit your application to Alpha. 

If you are already in Canada, please contact our front desk team at frontdesk@slc-alpha.ca.

If you are overseas, you need to submit your application through one of our certified agents. If you do not have an agent, please inquire for more information through the form found at the bottom of this page or email admissions@slc-alpha.ca.

The application package must contain the following documentation:

  • Application form signed and completed;
  • Copy of passport and stamped visa (if applicable);
  • Copy of valid study permit (if you already have one);
  • Certified copies of high school / post secondary transcripts, diplomas and degrees;
  • Proof of English proficiency (please see accepted English proficiency exams below);
  • Transcripts of current school (if currently enrolled in an education institution in Canada);
  • Proof of payment

All documents must be in English.

Once the receipt of your application is confirmed, it will take an average of 3 to 4 weeks to be processed. 

Your application has been approved! Now what?

You will receive an e-mail from our Admissions Team regarding your next steps:

A. IF YOU ARE UNDER SDS STREAM (applying directly from China, India, Vietnam, or the Philippines)

Your Letter of Acceptance will be issued to you with an invoice for the payment of the first year. You will be given a payment deadline of 21 days to make the payment.

B. IF YOU ARE APPLYING NON-SDS OVERSEAS (all other countries)

When you are notified of your acceptance to your program, you will receive an invoice and have 21 days to pay the minimum deposit of your first semester.

C. IF YOU ARE ALREADY IN CANADA (all countries)

When you are notified of your acceptance to your program, you will have 2 weeks to pay the balance of your first semester. After the balance is paid, you will receive your LOA.

Payment can be made through wire transfer, debit or credit card.

If you do not have a valid Study Permit, you must apply for it through the Government of Canada Official Website (www.cic.gc.ca).

If you already have a valid study permit, please submit it with your application package. If you are required to extend it, you may submit the LOA to the Government of Canada Official Website.

Before the commencement of the semester, all outstanding tuition fees must be paid.

If you are arriving from overseas, you must visit the College to register and submit your documents to confirm your enrolment in your program.

You must attend the Orientation Day before your first week of classes. You will be notified of this date via email.

St. Lawrence Exam

The required score is 60% except for degree and post-graduate programs which require at least 70%.

TOEFL

Undergraduate programs: required a minimum score of 78 on the internet-based test, or 213 on the computer-based test;

Postgraduate programs: required a minimum score of 83 on the internet-based test, or 220 on the computer-based.

Academic IELTS

The required academic IELTS score is 6.0 overall with a minimum score of 5.5 in each section for undergraduate programs. Academic IELTS for post-graduate programs: 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each section.

CAEL

An overall score of 60 is required for admission to our programs. This Canadian test assesses English use for academic purposes and is offered at Canadian embassies and at all Canadian Education Centre Network (CECN) locations.

STEP/EIKEN

A minimum score of Pre-1 is needed for the Japanese-based test.

MELAB

A minimum score of 80 is required except for degree and post-graduate programs MELAB for degree and post-graduate programs: 82

PTE

Pearson Test of English (PTE) Language scores of 55 or higher for entrance to diploma and certificate programs; minimum score of 60 for entry to degree, graduate certificate and fast-track programs.

Queen’s University Exam

Advanced Level Certificate or higher

Cambridge English Test

Scores of 173 or higher for entrance to diploma and certificate programs; minimum score of 180 for entry to degree and graduate certificate.
